Traits and Actions

Molten Slag Body

Trait
A creature that touches the Slag-Crawler or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 5 (1d10) fire damage.

Steam Vent

Trait
As an action, the Slag-Crawler vents scalding steam in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw, taking 14 (4d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Flooded Tunnel Ambush

Trait
If the Slag-Crawler is hidden and surprises a creature, its first attack against that creature has advantage, and if it hits, the target is Grappled (escape DC 15).

Multiattack

Action
The Slag-Crawler makes two Iron Leg attacks.

Iron Leg

Action
Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 3 (1d6) fire damage.

Drag into Scalding Water

Action
While grappling a Medium or smaller creature, the Slag-Crawler can move up to half its speed toward water or molten slag. The grappled creature takes 10 (3d6) fire damage at the start of each of the Slag-Crawler's turns while dragged.

Scalding Retort

Reaction
When a creature within 5 feet of the Slag-Crawler misses it with an attack, the crawler vents a burst of steam. The attacker takes 5 (1d10) fire damage.

Running the encounter

Combat Behavior

Combat Style

Ambusher, grappler, area denial via steam and dragging targets into hazards. Prefers flooded tunnels where mobility advantages are negated for foes.
