Features

Discovery: Air

Custom Elemental Attunement Level 1
1/short rest

Yuki's meditation in the mountain peaks revealed the secret of the Way of the Four Winds - Air School. She can channel the wind itself as a Bonus Action, granting herself 10 feet of additional walking speed and the ability to move an additional 5 feet after being hit by an attack (similar to the Open Hand Technique's reactive movement). This reflects her training under the air school of master arts.

Martial Arts

Monk Class Feature Level 1
At will

You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your Unarmed Strikes and Monk Weapons. You can make an Unarmed Strike as a Bonus Action. When you use the Attack action with an Unarmed Strike or Monk Weapon on your turn, you can make one additional unarmed strike as a Bonus Action. Your Unarmed Strike damage increases to 1d6 at level 5.

Self-Reliance

Hermit Background Level 1

You can find a place where you can hide, retreat, meditate, or sleep apart from the world, and your time spent there grants you clarity of mind. During a Short Rest, you can use a Calligrapher's Supplies to write a prayer, scripture, meditation, or other philosophical work that benefits the next person who reads it.

Cat's Claws

Tabaxi Species Level 1

You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the normal bludgeoning damage for an unarmed strike.

Feline Agility

Tabaxi Species Level 1
Recharges on movement

Your climbing speed equals your walking speed. When you move on your turn, you can double your speed until the end of that turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your subsequent turns.

Handwraps of Frost

Magic Item (Uncommon) Level 1

While wearing these handwraps, your Unarmed Strikes deal an additional 1d4 Cold damage on a hit, and the target's speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.

Unarmored Defense

Monk Class Feature Level 1

While you are wearing no armor and not wielding a Shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier.

Darkvision

Tabaxi Species Level 1

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.

Weapon Mastery (Shortsword, Unarmed Strikes)

Monk Class Feature Level 1

You have Mastery over the Shortsword and your Unarmed Strikes, allowing you to use special mastery properties.

Character Information

Yuki Silverpaw is a striking feline warrior whose lithe, athletic frame moves with the fluid precision of a winter wind. Standing at just over five feet, her Siamese-marked fur is a study in elegant contrast - creamy white accented by deep seal-brown points along her ears, face mask, paws, and tail. Her most captivating feature is her eyes: pools of luminous bright blue that seem to focus with supernatural clarity on any target of her attention. She wears a fitted navy blue gi, the fabric immaculate and well-maintained, trimmed along the edges with delicate teal embroidered silhouettes of running animals - a tribute to the wild spirits of the four winds. Across her back, her family crest is rendered in fine silver thread: a snow leopard poised atop a mountain peak beneath a crescent moon. Around her hands, she wears magical handwraps of frost, the cloth shimmering with a perpetual chill that frosts her knuckles in winter and beads with condensation in summer. Yuki trained for years under a reclusive master of the Air School, learning to channel the invisible currents of the world into her strikes and movements. She fights with blinding speed, her paws and short swords weaving patterns that mirror the gusts and eddies of mountain storms. Despite her deadly capabilities, she carries herself with quiet humility, speaking only when necessary and preferring the company of high places where the wind speaks freely.

Character Background

Yuki was born in a small mountain monastery nestled high in the frost-tipped peaks of the northern range, where the wind never ceases and the snow falls nine months of the year. Her family, the Silverpaws, had served as guardians of the monastery for seven generations, their lineage traced back to a snow leopard spirit that once saved the founder from an avalanche. The family crest - that snow leopard poised upon a peak - was embroidered on every gi worn by Silverpaw monks, a reminder of their covenant with the mountain and the wind.

From the moment she could walk, Yuki was taught to listen. Her grandmother, the monastery matriarch, would take her out onto the cliffs at dawn and say, 'The wind speaks to those who are still. Hear it, and you will never be lost.' Yuki took these words to heart. While other children played, she would sit motionless on the highest spires, feeling the currents shift around her, learning their moods and whispers. By the age of six, she could predict weather changes by the wind alone. By eight, she could move so silently across rocky terrain that even her masters could not hear her footsteps.

When Yuki turned twelve, her family sent her to study under Master Kazehiro, a reclusive hermit who dwelt in a cave at the mountain's peak. Kazehiro was a monk of the Air School, one of the last practitioners of an ancient tradition that believed the four winds - north, south, east, and west - each held a fragment of the world's breath. He had withdrawn from the monastery decades ago, following a personal tragedy that Yuki never fully understood. The elders hoped he would take Yuki as a student, for her natural attunement to the air was already legendary among the Silverpaws.

Kazehiro was a demanding teacher. For the first year, he refused to teach her any combat techniques at all. Instead, he made her sweep the cave, fetch water from the frozen spring below, and sit in meditation for hours as the winds howled around her. 'You cannot master the air,' he told her repeatedly, 'until you understand stillness. The wind does not fight the mountain. It flows around it. You must learn to be like the mountain - immovable - while also being like the wind - unstoppable.'

It was during her second year that Yuki received the handwraps of frost. Kazehiro presented them to her on the winter solstice, the coldest night of the year. 'These belonged to my teacher,' he said, 'and her teacher before her. They carry the chill of the north wind, the breath of winter itself. Wear them, and remember that true power is not heat - it is the patience of cold.' Yuki accepted the wraps with trembling paws, feeling their magic hum against her fur.

Under Kazehiro's tutelage, Yuki learned the Way of the Four Winds, though she focused specifically on the Air School as her grandmother had instructed. She learned to read the currents of battle the way she once read the mountain winds, sensing where her opponents would move before they moved. She learned to strike with the speed of a gale, her paws becoming blurs of frost-touched motion. She learned to be still in the midst of chaos, an immovable point around which the storm of combat flowed.

But Kazehiro grew old, and on a bitter winter night, he passed in his sleep, his final breath a whispered prayer to the winds that had been his only companions for so long. Yuki buried him on the peak overlooking the monastery, marking his grave with a cairn of stones that she had carried up the mountain herself. Before she left, she found his final gift: a short sword of folded steel, its blade etched with the same four winds that adorned her gi. She took it as a sign - and as a promise.

Now twenty-three years old, Yuki has returned to the world below the mountains. Her grandmother has passed, and her parents have grown old. The monastery still stands, but fewer young ones come to study each year. Yuki feels the pull of something she cannot name - a restlessness that even the wind cannot quiet. She has heard rumors of disturbances in the lowlands: bandits growing bold, monsters stirring in forgotten places, and a darkness that some say whispers from the south. She does not know yet what role she will play in these events, but she knows that the stillness Kazehiro taught her is not the same as hiding. Sometimes, the wind must move. Sometimes, it must strike. And Yuki Silverpaw, last of the Silverpaw guardians, has finally learned the difference.
