Behind the character

Character Information

Blake Belladonna is a lithe young woman whose presence is defined by quiet tension—the coiled stillness of someone perpetually ready to run or fight. Her most striking features are the pair of sleek black cat ears atop her head, the visible mark of her Faunus heritage, and her sharp amber eyes that seem to catch every movement in a room. Long, dark hair falls past her shoulders, often tied back when she expects trouble, which is often. She moves with the economical, silent grace of a predator, her 35-foot stride eating up ground without a sound, and she is as comfortable scaling a wall as walking a street.

Her attire is practical and unassuming: a black cropped jacket with white trim over a purple-laced top, white shorts, and dark leggings—clothes that let her vanish into shadows and rooftops alike. She wears leather armor beneath, favoring protection that doesn't cost her speed. Coiled at her back is her signature weapon, a curved black ribbon-like blade that can serve as a slashing sword or lash out as a whip, reflecting her fighting style: fluid, acrobatic, and unpredictable.

Blake's personality is guarded to a fault. Years of discrimination and betrayal have taught her that trust is a vulnerability, and she keeps new companions at arm's length, deflecting personal questions with dry wit or silence. Beneath the wariness lies a fierce moral core—Chaotic Good to the bone—driven by an unshakable belief that Faunus and humans can one day stand as equals. She is bookish and introspective, often found reading in quiet corners, and surprisingly gentle with those who earn her loyalty.

Her flaws are as real as her virtues: she bottles up her fears, runs from problems rather than facing them, and carries a corrosive guilt over her past with the White Fang. When cornered, she fights with the desperate precision of someone who has nothing left to lose—and everything to prove.

Before the adventure

Character Background

Blake Belladonna was born on Menagerie, the island sanctuary given to the Faunus after the Great War—a place that was supposed to be a home but felt more like an exile's reservation. Her family, the Belladonnas, were respected figures in their community, known for their measured advocacy and belief in peaceful coexistence with humanity. Blake grew up hearing stories of the Faunus Rights Revolution, of battles like the siege of Fort Castle where Faunus warriors turned the tide against overwhelming odds.

But she also grew up hearing slurs spat in markets when her family traveled, seeing 'No Faunus' signs on shop doors, and watching human dockworkers throw stones at children whose only crime was having ears like a cat. The island's isolation was presented as protection; Blake came to understand it as a cage.

The White Fang began as her hope. Founded as a peaceful protest movement demanding equal rights for Faunus, it represented everything her parents taught her to believe in: dignity, solidarity, change without bloodshed. Blake joined as a young woman, marching in demonstrations, organizing boycotts, and learning Thieves' Cant and Faunus Sign as tools of a movement forced underground. She was good at the work—too good. She could slip into meetings unnoticed, gather intelligence, move through cities that hated her. Her superiors noticed. So did the movement's darker turn.

When peaceful protests were met with violence and nothing changed, the White Fang's leadership changed too. Sit-ins became sabotage. Sabotage became bombings. Property became people. Blake watched comrades she loved rationalize atrocity as necessity, watched the organization she'd sacrificed her youth for become the very monster humans had always accused the Faunus of being. She told herself she was still fighting for something noble. She told herself the ends justified the methods. She told herself a great many things while her hands did work she couldn't stop seeing when she closed her eyes.

The breaking point came when she was ordered to participate in an operation that would kill innocents—collateral damage in a war most of the world didn't know was being fought. She refused. The refusal made her a traitor to the only family she had left. Blake fled in the night, using every trick the Fang had taught her to cover her trail, and she has been running since. She abandoned the White Fang's cause but not her own; she still believes in Faunus equality, still dreams of a world where her children won't need ears hidden under hats. She simply no longer believes the Fang's path leads there.

Now she survives on the fringes, a thief and infiltrator by necessity, her criminal contacts her only reliable network. She takes jobs that pay and, when she can, jobs that matter—robbing slavers who traffic Faunus, stealing evidence from corrupt officials, vanishing with secrets that powerful people want kept. Her Alert instincts keep her alive; her cat eyes and feline grace keep her free. She trusts slowly, loves reluctantly, and never stays anywhere long enough to be found.

But every companion she lets past her walls finds someone fiercely loyal, quietly compassionate, and endlessly brave—the girl who joined a revolution to make the world better, still trying, one shadow at a time, to live up to what the Belladonna name was supposed to mean.
