Racial Features

Spiritborne Nature

You are a spirit-fey rather than a mortal born of flesh. You count as a Fey creature for any rule or effect that refers to creature type. You don't need to eat or drink, and magic can't put you to sleep. Instead of sleeping, you can spend 4 hours in a quiet, watchful state of meditation to gain the benefits of a Long Rest. During that time, you remain aware of your surroundings, though you are not fully active. Your form is stable, but it always carries a faint sense of unfinished intention, as though you are only ever one breath away from becoming more or less than you appear.

Usage: Always active

Whispering Presence

You know the Message cantrip. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for it. Yokia often express themselves in murmurs, lantern-glow, rustling sleeves, or a pressure in the air that another spirit-minded creature can somehow understand. Even when you speak aloud, your words often seem to arrive with a second, softer meaning beneath them, as though some older part of you is still trying to finish a sentence that was interrupted long ago.

Usage: Always active

Flicker Step

As a Bonus Action, you can teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest. Yokia use this flicker of motion to pass through rain, slip around thresholds, or vanish from grasping hands. It is not a full spirit-walk, but a brief refusal to remain where the world expects you to be.

Usage: Proficiency Bonus times per Long Rest

Unbound Senses

Choose one of the following skills: Insight, Perception, Deception, or Persuasion. You gain proficiency in the chosen skill. Many Yokia develop a keen understanding of desire, grief, and concealed motive, since those feelings often cling to them like incense smoke. Some become excellent listeners, some become uncanny judges of character, and others learn to read the smallest shifts in a room as if they were listening to a cracked bell ring in the dark.

Usage: Always active

Rules Compatibility

Primary Ruleset D&D 5.5 / SRD 5.2
Compatible Rulesets D&D 5.5 / SRD 5.2, D&D 5e / SRD 5.1
Ability Scores Flexible; no fixed species ability score bonuses are granted. Use the normal 5.5 background-based ability score treatment, or adapt to legacy 5e at the DM's discretion.
Balance Notes Yokia sit in the same power band as official species with a minor cantrip, limited teleportation, and narrow utility or skill features. They avoid flight, innate damage resistance, and heavy spellcasting, so the package remains comparable to elf-, goliath-, or halfling-style options in 5.5.
