When worn, the Wisp's Embrace appears as a tattered shawl woven from the shadows of the ethereal plane. It grants the wearer the ability to become incorporeal (as the spell Etherealness) for a single turn once per long rest. This ability allows the user to pass through solid objects, potentially avoiding damage and obstacles. However, the shawl is imbued with a bitter curse: each time the user becomes incorporeal, they must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or suffer 1d6 necrotic damage and be haunted by whispers of the dead until the end of their next turn, imposing disadvantage on the next ability check they make.

The Nightshade Wisp is said to have created this item from the remnants of lost souls, absorbing their echoes to gain a semblance of their power while further binding itself to the agony of its existence. This connection to tortured spirits makes the Wisp's Embrace both a source of power and a reminder of the fragility of life, feeding into the user's darkest fears and desires.
