Campaign Overview

In a world where magic is real, a peaceful village hides within a circle of glowing mushrooms atop a suburban backyard. Each night, a fairy vanishes, followed by a house at dawn. The circle grants safety and ignorance of the outside, but its power wanes. Unseen by those inside, a CHILD within the circle harvests flowers and mushrooms, slowly siphoning the dome’s magic and triggering the disappearances. The players must uncover the truth and stop the pattern, choosing whether to coax the child out, destroy the circle, or find a safer way to restore balance.

Setting

The backyard is a living ecosystem in which fae magic threads through grass, soil, and trellised vines. The mushroom ring glows faintly under moonlight; tiny houses sit on moss beds, and fairies flutter like embers. The real world lies just beyond the fence, but the circle fences it off, leaving villagers blind to the danger and the truth. The dome’s fragility is a ticking clock: every day the circle weakens a little more.

Main Quest

Discover who or what is draining the ring’s magic, stop the disappearances, and decide the fate of the village. The core dilemma is paradoxical: the child is the source of the threat, yet he is unaware of his impact and cannot be seen by those inside the circle. Players must find a way to reach or influence him, or—if necessary—destroy the circle to reveal the truth and restore balance.

Adventure Arc

• Act 1: Investigate the vanishings. Speak with villagers, track fairy dust and footprints on the edge of the ring, observe how the mushroom glow changes at night. Gather clues that point toward the child and the ring.


• Act 2: Enter the circle’s boundary or find a means to reach beyond it. The party learns the child is invisible to everyone inside and must decide how to interact with him or the outside world.


• Act 3: Confront the root cause. Is the child simply harvesting, or is an external force bending him to drain the magic? The PCs choose to either break the circle responsibly or guide the child to safety while repairing the dome’s integrity.

Endings

• The circle is destroyed and the village steps into the larger backyard world, fairies return, and new adventures await.


• The circle is stabilized with safeguards that allow safe coexistence between the village and the outside world.


• The child’s influence is removed or redirected, ending the disappearances and restoring harmony.

Rewards & Hooks

• Fairy blessings, magical seeds that grow protective wards, and a map to the larger world beyond the fence.


• Potential loyal fey allies, a talking mushroom item, and unique spells tied to nature’s hidden places.

Side Quests

• Free a fairy trapped in a lawn ornament by solving a garden riddle.


• Recover the Mushroom of Memory to recall the village’s founder and hidden lore.


• Repair a broken garden gate that serves as a portal to another realm, offering a safer exit from the circle.
