Overview
Kagetsu is a land where moonlight reveals truth—and sometimes things that should remain unseen. The boundary between human realms and the spirit world has fractured, spawning unstable zones where yokai manifest, vanish, and evolve with unsettling unpredictability. The Tsukimori Outpost—a fortified shrine settlement perched on a major spirit crossing—is the frontier hub. From here, adventurers take contracts to investigate disturbances, bargain with spirits, and guard travelers as the Veil wavers.

Main Quest
The party’s core objective is to reweave the Veil by recovering four Moonshards, artifacts that anchor the crossings. Each shard rests at a different crossing gate with its own trials: Hikari Marsh (east), Kage Pass (west), Umime Slope (south), and Yama Woods (north). To claim a shard, the party must pass trials of arms, guile, and compassion, contend with rogue yokai, and earn the trust of wary spirits. When all four shards are secured, a final ritual at the Moon Gate can either seal Kagetsu or bind it to a new fate.

Nonlinear sandbox
Contracts are player-driven; you choose where to venture, when to face danger, and how to resolve disturbances. Moon cycles shape events: a full moon reveals hidden histories and magnifies threats; a new moon darkens the Veil and invites misdirection. Outcomes alter factions, bounty rewards, and which rumors prove true.

Central events and triggers
The Night Gate’s ascent triggers truth-telling dreams, but misreadings invite envy and rage from guardians. If a crossing falls under strain, districts flood with restless energy and strange weather; success expands access to the Spirit Market—moon-touched gear and yokai allies.

Side quests and risks
Rescue a kitsune scholar, recover a stolen temple bell, parley with a grumpy tengu to seal a wind-rift, aid a village of yuki-onna longing for warmth, or cleanse a haunted shrine rewriting memories.

Rewards
Moonlit blessings, unique moon-touched items, yōkai allies, and rising standing with Tsukimori Outpost and Kagetsu factions.

Hooks
A missing priestess, a festival map etched in moonlight, a rogue yokai seeking sanctuary, and a newly visible crossing that only appears during eclipses.
