Overview

This 5e-inspired campaign riffs on the Dungeon Meshi concept: your party explores a sprawling dungeon, salvages edible magic from foes, and cooks dishes that grant temporary powers, reveal secrets, or reshape the dungeon itself. The tone blends peril, whimsy, and culinary invention as you balance exploration with appetite and ethics around living ingredients.

Setting

The Ember Vault lies beneath the city of Cinderhold, a maze of simmering corridors, broth-filled cisterns, and pantry-like halls. The dungeon is split into wings—Broth Bay, Frying Fjords, and Ember’s Core—each with its own guardian and a distinct ecosystem of edible curiosities. Sentient kettles, talking cauldrons, and hungry guardians watch over the kitchens and pantry shelves.

The Main Quest

A century-old famine returns, and the Ember Sentinel—the Vault’s heartkeeper—stirs. To avert catastrophe, the party must assemble the Ember Feast: recover three legendary ingredients (the Dragonfruit Ember, the Basilisk Stock, and the Phoenix Broth) and craft a final dish from a master recipe hidden in the Vault’s ancient library. The feast must be served at the Vault’s heart before the sentinel consumes the world.

Side Quests & Hooks

• A panicked guild of cooks asks the party to rescue a missing chef who knows a forbidden recipe.


• A goblin chef broker offers rare spices; bargain carefully, as alliances shift with every spice trade.


• A trapped kitchen automaton offers cryptic hints in exchange for fresh ingredients and safe passage through hazardous wards.

Mechanics & Challenges

Exploration, skill checks for harvesting, and a running “hunger” system that compels players to cook rather than hoard. Dishes grant temporary buffs, reveal hidden doors, or alter dungeon layouts. Environmental hazards include boiling pools, sentient kettles, rot that gnaws at time, and recipes that react to party decisions.

Rewards

Unique recipes and magical dishes, permanent stat boosts from rare ingredients, faction goodwill among the Vault’s culinary clans, and the joy of turning fearsome foes into feast-worthy ingredients. Completing the Ember Feast alters the Vault and the world above, sealing a delicate peace between appetite and danger.
