Almighty DM

The Almighty DM is a player character who channels the voice and powers of a worldshaper. They manipulate narrative levers—probability, plot hooks, and scene composition—turning play into a tool. They are a bridge between metagame and in-game authority, at once charming and unnerving.

Spawn Trap
Action 1 Plot Point Level 1

You place a narrative trap in an area. As an action and spending 1 Plot Point, choose a 10-foot square within 60 feet. Saving Throw: Dexterity
Conditions: restrained, prone
Duration: 1 round (varies)
Raise CR
Action 2 Plot Points Level 2

Buff Effect
Duration: 1 minute
Plot Twist
Reaction 2 Plot Points Level 3

Spend 2 Plot Points as a reaction when an enemy hits an ally: you can replace that hit with a surprising narrative (the enemy slips, the weapon fails). Treat as converting the hit into a miss. The attacker knows it was a twist.

Control Effect
Conditions: disarmed (flavor)
Duration: Instant
NPC Directive
Bonus Action 1 Plot Point Level 3

Divine Critique
Action 1 Plot Point Level 4

You can spend 1 Plot Point to inspect an ability, item, or creature for weaknesses. As an action, gain one piece of mechanical insight (e.g., creature is vulnerable to thunder damage) which you and the DM agree on. This insight lasts until you use it or 1 hour elapses.

Utility Effect

Buff Effect

Narrative Mark
Bonus Action 1 Plot Point Level 6

When an ally benefits from your Meta Adjudicator or Session Save, they gain a Narrative Mark. You can spend a Plot Point as a bonus action to consume a Mark and grant that ally either a temporary hit point pool equal to your level × 2 or a single reroll on a failed save within 1 minute.

Prerequisites:

Meta Adjudicator

Healing Effect
Duration: Instant or 1 minute
Edit Outcome
Action 3 Plot Points Level 7

Spend 3 Plot Points to shift the stakes of a single contest (a duel, a contested skill challenge, a social contest). Mechanically, alter consequences: convert a failed contested skill into partial success, reduce damage consequences, or change the progression to a negotiated outcome. This is narrative in scope and must be approved by the DM.

Control Effect
Duration: Narrative
Die of Fate
Action 1 Plot Point Level 8

You conjure a spectral d20. As an action, roll it and apply its number as a modifier to one creature's roll (ally adds it; enemy subtracts it). This costs 1 Plot Point. At 11th level you may spend 2 Plot Points to grant advantage when the d20 comes up 20 for an ally (story-dependent).

Buff Effect
Duration: Instant
Retcon Scene

Prerequisites:

Retcon

Control Effect
Duration: Instant
Narrative Anchor
Action 3 Plot Points Level 13

Place an anchor that stabilizes reality. Spend 3 Plot Points as an action to create a point within 60 feet. While within 30 feet of the anchor, allies add your Charisma modifier to saves and checks once per round. The anchor lasts 1 minute.

Buff Effect

GM's Gambit
Bonus Action 2 Plot Points Level 14

Once per short rest, you may spend 2 Plot Points to impose an optional rule in the middle of an encounter that affects only a single round (e.g., 'ranged attacks require an extra d20 check', 'stealth is doubled in value'). Must be narratively justified.

Control Effect
Duration: 1 round
Epic Plot Device
Action 5 Plot Points Level 16

Spend 5 Plot Points to introduce a major, bounded narrative device (a macguffin, a stage effect, a summoned noncombatant entity) that remains for 24 hours. The DM adjudicates mechanical specifics with your input.

Utility Effect
Duration: 24 hours
Session Save (Combat)
Reaction 3 Plot Points Level 17

Duration: Instant
Canonize
Action 6 Plot Points Level 20

Utility Effect
Duration: Permanent (campaign-level)

Class Features

Author's Quill (Level 1)

You begin play with a magical quill and a bound 'Session Log.' The quill records events you describe aloud (for roleplay and adjudication) and can be used to mark a single NPC or object as 'Scripted.' A Scripted target is easier to influence with your class abilities (you gain +2 to DCs or attack rolls made by your class abilities against that target). You can Script one target at a time; scripting a new one ends the old script.

Plot Points (Level 1)

You gain a pool of Plot Points equal to 1 + half your level (rounded down). Plot Points fuel many of your abilities. You regain all Plot Points on a long rest. Several features expand or alter how Plot Points refresh.

Narrative Thread (Level 2)

As an action, spend 1 Plot Point to weave a Narrative Thread: choose one creature within 60 feet. Until the end of your next turn the next time that creature would succeed on an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, you can spend a reaction to force a reroll and choose which result stands. You must decide to use this before the outcome is revealed.

Resource Cost: 1 Plot Point

Prerequisite: Plot Points

Fourth-Wall Awareness (Level 3)

You automatically notice illusions, falsehoods presented as reality, and creatures that masquerade as objects (as detect thoughts mixed with true seeing in narrative instances). Mechanically, you have advantage on Insight checks to perceive deception and gain a +2 passive Perception and Investigation when you are not surprised.

Rulebook Authority (Level 6)

At 6th level your rulings carry mechanical weight. When you issue a ruling (a clear, concise change to non-core rules, e.g., "This trap is disarmed if they succeed on DC 12 Investigation") as part of your turn and spend 2 Plot Points, that ruling is treated as if it were a temporary class feature for 1 minute. Allies acting within the scope of the ruling gain advantage on relevant checks once.

Resource Cost: 2 Plot Points

Meta Adjudicator (Level 10)

At 10th level you can, once per long rest, declare 'Session Save' as a reaction when a creature under your influence would be reduced to 0 HP. You may spend 3 Plot Points to instead reduce that damage by an amount equal to your class level × 5; if this prevents death, the creature falls to 1 HP and gains a temporary 'Narrative Mark' that your class features can consume for extra effects.

Resource Cost: 3 Plot Points

Authoritative Rewrite (Level 14)

At 14th level you can spend 4 Plot Points to rewrite a short sequence of events: as an action you choose one creature you can see and force it to reroll one attack roll, saving throw, or skill check and take the new result. If the new result is better for the target, they gain no additional benefit; if worse, they take the worse. You may use this feature once, and regain it on a long rest.

Resource Cost: 4 Plot Points

Final Editor (Level 18)

At 18th level you can spend 6 Plot Points to declare a climactic change once per long rest: for 1 minute you impose one of the following effects (your choice): (a) All hostile creatures in a 60-foot radius have disadvantage on one type of roll you choose (attacks, saves, or checks); (b) Once per round, you can alter the result of an attack roll made by an ally within 60 feet (after seeing roll) by adding +10 to the die result; or (c) Create a 'Narrative Anchor' at a point you can see: reality near that anchor gains stability, granting creatures of your choice resistance to all damage for 1 round once during the minute. Using Final Editor is a story-significant action the DM should narrate with care.

Resource Cost: 6 Plot Points
